Referee today
Watched the match and thought barring nobles sending off had an excellent game. Many would have bottle it at anfield but he did well and stayed strong, on a par with Durkin at OT cup game 2001.

Re: Referee today
I've watched football for 50 odd years. I played football for over 20 years. I managed a team for 8 years.

IMO Nobles tackle was superb. One footed, on the floor, took the ball cleanly. Yes there was a bit of follow through which is due to the players momentum.

That tackle would have been applauded 20 or 30 years ago.

What are these pricks doing to the game - not even a free kick in my book.

Basically refs in the prem are turning it into a no contact sport.
Bye bye sliding tackles and 50/50 collisions all we have now is simulation, dives and dodgy pushing and arms rounds necks in the areas which always seems to go unpunished it is ruining the game part of the fun of being a defender is tackling

Hermit Road ~ Thanks, I always thought it was the 4th official, I stand corrected then!

In that case the referee got that wrong too yesterday

Re: Referee today
Jack, the referee tells the fourth official what number to put on the board.

Chester Rd ~ Exactly, but if a surgeon removed the wrong kidney, he'd almost certainly get struck off!

When it's football, the authorities just wink & say "Carry on"!

Bit like saying the surgeon did a brilliant job apart from removing the wrong kidney.

Re: Referee today
When you go to places like Anfield or OT you fully expect to get nothing from the referee, who nearly always gets influenced by the crowd

Clearly, it's not right, but that's nearly always the way it is

I thought the referee was reasonably fair today in that respect

However, there is no way Coutinho should have been sent off. That was a mistake

He sent Noble off to "even things up" , which often happens. An even bigger mistake, as it wasn't even a foul, let alone a red

I don't blame the referee for the ludicrous 11mins extra time (clearly intended to appease the home fans) as that is surely down to the 4th official isn't it?

He said that in the first sentence of his post.

Must try harder.

Well he wasn't steady, steady.

If you send two players off that you should not have then you are a Mr boo boo.

I think he called it wrong and wasn't levelling things up, he seemed if anything more biased slightly in our favour today.

Re: Referee today
Terrible game. Both sending offs were wrong. Played extra time from nowhere in the first half. Didn't book that left back of theirs no matter how many fouls he comitted. Was obviously just trying to level it up with Noble, the sign of a truly awful ref.
